Chapter Eleven

Wade

I hold Yuri’s sippy cup as I watch him become surrounded by stuffed animals. Princess Aster and the Barnes men are all doting on him in the sweetest way.

My chest aches at the thought of him never being accepted. I burn with anger at his father for making him feel like he was anything less than perfect.

“It’s good to have another princess around. I know Aster eats it up anytime someone likes the stuff he does,” Charlie says from beside me. His gaze is focused on the group as well.

“He’s a natural. Damn near lit up like a Christmas tree the moment I said there were dolls to play with.” Rhett whispers the words from my other side.

I nod along with both men. There isn’t anything I can say to add. Yuri was a mystery to me when he first arrived. I thought for sure he was up to no good.

Now I can see how wrong I might have been. There’s more to the story than meets the eye.

“If he loves pink, then Princess Aster has a ton of extra stuff we can send your way. He’s also got some inventory samples you might want. Just let me know what your boy might want.”

Charlie’s words startle me. I turn to him.

“My boy?”

He laughs, though it’s not in a mean way. “I think we can all see there’s something starting here. We’ll refer to him that way until you tell us not to. Trust your gut. What does it say?”

“He’s mine.”

His smile widens. I hear a few of the other Daddies around us chuckling. “Then he should be yours. If he wants to, that is.”

“I’ve never done this, though. Not with a man. And never long term.”

“Long term?” Shiloh asks.

I nod to him. “More than a night.”

Jasper taps Charlie on the shoulder, then motions for him to move. The other man does without question.

“You need to know a few things first.”

“Ok.”

He rubs a hand over his jaw, his eyes never straying from where Yuri is contemplating the animals around him. I watch him as well, but for very different reasons.

“His father is an asshole of the highest order. He’s only ever seen Yuri as property. The last time he found him, Yuri was dragged out fighting - literally. These beefy guys in suits with military grade weapons showed up and just plucked him from work. He begged them to let him leave on his own, but they wouldn’t. Had orders to take him immediately.”

“Fuck,” I whisper, careful not to let the boys playing hear my anger.

“Yeah. Imagine how I felt. I went to his place to check on him after and found it empty. Completely bare except for an envelope with cash for the landlord. I’d known him for two years at that point. We’d worked together more than once and never had I thought he’d been going through that.

“And now he’s basically in hiding. We’re the only people he has. The rest of his life will have to be in the shadows, so his father never tries to take him like that again.
